The Tale of Two Frogs – A Moral Story from Japan

One there were two frogs from Japan. They lived far apart from one another. One was lived in a ditch on the sea coast in Tokyo and another one resided in a clear stream that flowed through the city.

They were lived separate and miles apart from each other. The two frogs had never seen and heard each other. One day, a thought struck both frog's minds. They desired to watch the outside of their world. The first frog wanted to see how Tokyo looked like, and the second one wanted to visit Alaska. On a fine day, they finally set off on their respective journey, wishing to make their dreams come true.

Both the frogs started from the opposite ends of the road that connected to Okaya and Tokyo. The journey was long and tiresome. They both faced many difficulties before they came across a mountain that had to be crossed before they continue their journey.

It took a tremendous amount of effort for both of them to climb up the mountain. When they reached the top, they saw each other. Each frog was surprised to see another frog at the top of the mountain. They remained silent for a few moments, then they both jumped into a conversation. It was yet again a surprise for both of them when they discovered that they both had the same wish - that of visiting their neighbor country and know more about it. They then decided to rest for some time before continuing on their journey.

'How I wish we could be much bigger, that way we could have seen the towns from here. said the frog from Okaya.

Frog from Kyoto thought for some time, and an idea struck him and he was delighted.

It is not a problem at all, let us both stand on our hind legs and support each other on our shoulders. That way we could easily have look at the town we wish to visit, he exclaimed.

As soon as the frog from Kyoto shared idea from his friend, Frog from Osaka jumped on his hind langs and held onto his friend's soulder, while frog from Kyoto did the same. Frog from Osaka turned his nose toward Kyota and frog from Kyoto turned his nose toward Osaka. They held onto each other's shoulder, clinging tightly to keep from falling off.

The ignorent frogs forget the fact that their eyes were in back of their heads. Even though their nose were in right directions, but their eyes could only see the places that they had actually left behind. It was a disappointing sight for both of them.

'O God, Osaka looks very much like Kyoto, There is no point in carrying out the journey furthur', cried Osaka Frog.

His friend was also equally disappointed. 'Had I known that Kyoto looks like a copy of Osaka, then I would have never left my home in first place.', said Kyoto frog.

Thus disappointed, both the frogs tooks their hands off from the soulders of each other and get down to the grass. They bid a polite goodbyes, and returned to their home. Unfortunatly, Both the frogs led their lives till the very end beleiving that Osaka and Kyoto were no differnet cities, and looked like mirror images.
